Shop With A Cop
The Parsons Police Department annually hosts "Shop with A Cop" in Parsons.
"Shop With a Cop" is a collaborative effort between the staff of our local Wal-Mart Store, St. Vincent DePaul, the Parsons Police Department and the generous citizens and businesses of the greater Parsons area, along with the Duke Mason Band for preforming a benefit concert to help fund the program.
The program is designed to provide children in need living in our community with the opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for themselves and their family members during these difficult economic times when they would otherwise have to go without. It also provides these children the opportunity to spend quality time with police officers and staff members of the Parsons Police Department "up close and personal" in a positive environment. We also include other emergency services such as Labette County EMS, Labette County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and Parsons Fire Department to help with this event.
For many children, the first time they interact with the Police Officer is when parent or sibling is being arrested or some other traumatic event. They don't understand why an Officer is arresting their loved one, they just know the Officer is taking them away.
In effort to foster a positive relationship with Parsons's area youth, the Parsons Police Department hosts Shop With A Cop. This annual event for families in need helps provide holiday gifts for children ad allow them to pick out gifts for their family members. For some kids these may be the only gifts they receive over the holidays.
If donations allow, the Legacy Fund will also partner with Meals on Wheels during the holiday to provide a food donation to Seniors who receive meals as shut ins, because of medical hardship and other reasons that limit their ability to have adequate food. The Legacy Fund Board will review donation levels annually to determine if and to what extent assistance may also be provided to Senior in our community
Donations will be accepted to help fund this worthwhile event. If you wish to make a donation, they can be dropped off at the Parsons Police Department or if sending a check please make payable to the City of Parsons and in the memo line, put "Shop With A Cop". Donations may also be mailed to the Parsons Police Department, 217 North Central, Parsons, KS 67357.
