Patrol Division

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division operates on four rotating 12-hour shifts, covering 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and vice versa. Each shift is staffed by a cohesive team-consisting of a Patrol Sergeant, a Corporal, a Senior Officer, and two Sector Officers (one assigned to the East sector, the other to the West). A Patrol Lieutenant oversees the entire division, coordinating operations and reporting directly to the Deputy Chief.

Duties of the Patrol Division include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring public safety through order maintenance, emergency response, and the protection of people and property.
  • Enforcing traffic and criminal laws, promoting positive community relations, and addressing quality-of-life issues.
  • Identifying, pursuing, and apprehending individuals involved in criminal activities.
  • Documenting incidents and activities through detailed reports, and reviewing circumstances to determine if criminal acts or statutory violations occurred.
  • Providing first aid and assistance to accident victims and others requiring urgent care.
  • Presenting evidence and testifying in court proceedings related to traffic and criminal cases.
  • Evaluating calls for service and emergency requests to determine appropriate responses.
  • Conducting regular patrols on foot or by vehicle, responding promptly to calls, and monitoring the environment for suspicious or illegal activities, safety hazards, or unusual situations.
  • Investigating traffic collisions and other accidents to determine causes and potential criminal involvement.
  • Collecting evidence by photographing or diagramming scenes and interviewing involved parties and witnesses.
  • Enforcing traffic regulations, issuing citations or warnings, and assisting motorists with travel information.
  • Directing and rerouting traffic flow during emergencies or special events.
  • Keeping citizens informed about available community services and offering options for long-term solutions to recurring issues.
  • Processing and documenting detainees during booking and pre-trial procedures.
  • Inspecting public establishments to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Providing official escorts for events such as funeral processions or firefighting operations.

Each year, the Patrol Division engages in more than 40,000 personal contacts-ranging from calls for service and traffic stops to general conversations that enhance community relations. As the most visible representatives of the Parsons Police Department, Patrol Officers work diligently to earn public trust, uphold the highest standards of service, and embody the Department's core values of Pride, Professionalism, and Dedication.
