TRAFFIC CHASE LEADS TO ARREST
On July 4, 2023, at 8:27 am Sergeant Waylon Kepley received information that there was a maroon SUV vehicle that had been reported stolen with a Missouri Plates on it, and it was parked in the 3300 block of Broadway Ave.
Sergeant Waylon Kepley located the SUV at 28th and Crawford and activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle continued to operate without stopping for Sergeant Waylon Kepley. The vehicle continued driving on several streets and not obeying traffic laws, and the vehicle exited the Parsons city limits to 25000 Road and Northern Blvd. The vehicle went off road and went into a cornfield.
The vehicle was occupied by two individuals. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jeffery William Klingman who fled from the vehicle once it stopped in the cornfield. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Charlotte Rae Blevins who was found in the vehicle and was taken into custody. A perimeter was set up to locate Jeffery Klingman hiding in the cornfield.
Labette County Sheriff's Office K-9, Deputy Gilliland was deployed to track Jeffery Klingman in the cornfield. Jeffery Klingman was located laying down in the cornfield and taken into custody without incident.
The vehicles information was located and advised that the vehicle was stolen out of Independence Kansas. The vehicle was a 2010 Chevy Suburban.
The Parsons Police Department is requesting the following charges for Jeffery Klingman and Charlotte Blevins; Flee or Attempt to Elude, Interference with Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Damage to Property, Driving While License Cancelled/Suspended/Revoked, Failure to Appear, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Multiple Traffic Violations.
Klingman and Blevins will be held until they are seen by a Labette County Judge for their first appearance, there they will be given a bond amount.
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
