Taco Mayo Burglary Update
Throughout this investigation the Parsons Police received information on the Taco Mayo Burglary identifying the suspected burglar. Still photos of the burglary in progress were released to news media after the crime was committed. Social media users have given the suspect the name "Butt Crack Bandit" on different social media platforms.
Paul Gordon, who was arrested for the Armed Robbery of a Bank in Independence, KS was found to have personal connections to Taco Mayo through an employee that worked at the store. Paul was also wearing an ankle monitor when committing both the Armed Robbery in Independence and the Taco Mayo Burglary in Parsons. Records from the ankle monitor show that he was at the businesses at the time the crimes were committed.
The employee who was involved with the burglary was identified as Kailee McClelland. Kailee was arrested for Interference with Law Enforcement for her deception regarding Paul. The investigation shows that both Kailee and Paul gave false statements to the investigators about the Taco Mayo burglary. Charges of Burglary and Theft are being sent to the Labette County Attorney for Paul Gordon.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "I want to thank the Parsons Police Departments Investigation Division for their continued efforts in this case. This is one case that we were looking forward to cracking wide open, and it looks as if we have done just that."
Detective Lieutenant Sherri McGuire said, "Good solid casework takes some time when there are few witnesses or leads to act on. We understand the frustrations of the community at times because we also get frustrated with the slow process that allows information to come our way. This case was just that way. We had suspicions of the criminal involved but had to verify our information before we could make the arrest or charge them with the crime. We were successful with this arrest and look to the judicial process for their punishment in this matter."
The arrest of Kailee and Paul can deliver some sense of closure to the community and the Taco Mayo business.
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It."
