Suspect Arrested in Vehicle Burglary Case
On November 19, 2021, Parsons Police Officers were called to the 100 block of North 14th Street for a reported vehicle burglary.
When officers arrived and spoke to the victim, they were told that the suspect was caught in the act by the vehicle owner and ran off north from the house. The suspect was described as a white female wearing a green jacket, skinny jeans, a beanie, shoulder length hair and approximately five foot tall and thin.
The suspect had reportedly gained entry into four vehicles and left behind a blue Motorola smart phone in the process. Among the items reported stolen was a purse, pink wallet with various bank and identification cards along with $400.00 in cash and an uncashed paycheck and miscellaneous change.
Around 11:20 am the victim of the burglary spotted the suspect she witnessed in her vehicle, in the 1600 block of Clark, still wearing the same clothes she witnessed earlier that morning. Officers arrived and conducted an investigation, along with several interviews. Officers later arrested Kaylan Anastasia Mills, 29 of Parsons, on suspicion of Burglary and Theft. Mills was taken into custody without incident. Officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for the stolen items but did not locate any of the reported items at the house.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "I know that I say it a lot but 'See It, Hear It, Report It' works great. This is another case closed due to the vigilance of not just our law enforcement officers but the community as well. The police only have so many eyes on the community, but the citizens have eyes everywhere. The victim witnessing the suspect and identifying them are better than all of the eyes in the department looking for descriptors of the suspect. It is hard to cast doubt in court when the prosecutor ask is that the person who was in your vehicle and the answer is yes. Great job by everyone. This case though ended still cost the victim money and a sense of security. Please keep your vehicles locked at all times. Starting your vehicle to warm them up in the mornings makes an easy target for crimes of opportunity. Keep your self and your vehicles safe."
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It."
