Storage Unit Burglary Solved
On March 17, 2020 Parsons Police Officer Garrett Lucas was called to take a burglary report at a storage unit just south of Pizzo's Restaurant. Officer Lucas gathered personal information from the victim for the report along with a list of missing items.
Officer Lucas reviewed video that had caught the burglary in progress and developed a lead on a suspect vehicle. Parsons Police Department Detectives and other officers located a vehicle matching the one in the video in the 100 block of North 14th. A follow up investigation was conducted at the residence the vehicle was located at it was found to be the same vehicle that was used. A search warrant was applied for and granted for the residence.
During the search of the residence the damaged lock from the storage unit was discovered along with burglars' tools and the reported stolen items. Also, in the residence Methamphetamines, Marijuana and Paraphernalia was located.
Billy Gene Sutton, 46 of Parsons, was located in the home and subsequently arrested on suspicion of Burglary, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Interference with Law Enforcement, Theft Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Criminal Damage to Property.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said "I am proud of all the officers involved in this case. This was a great example of teamwork and dedication to duty. This job well done is the culmination of good police work, good community involvement and perseverance."
Acting Commander Kyle Wiford said "this kind of case is hard to follow up on, but the officers involved showed good initiative and charged forward with the investigation getting enough information to apply for a search warrant. I am proud of the officers involved for clearing this case in less than 24 hours."
