Search Warrant Leads to Drugs, Guns, and Money

Date Posted: 01/17/2019

On January 15, 2019 Parsons Police were notified of a possible Battery that took place. While investigating the reported Battery, Parsons Police Corporal Brice Dickens found that the suspect, Valerie Charboneau was on Parole. Dickens contacted the listed Parole Officer and an Arrest and Detain Order was issued for Charboneau.

Parsons Police Officers, along with the assistance of Labette County Sheriffs Department, went to a house in the 2500 Block of Corning and arrested Valerie. Because of her parole status officers were able to conduct a search of the residence for illegal contraband such as drugs, weapons, and paraphernalia. While officers searched the house, they located a container with a white crystal-like substance, that was later identified as Methamphetamines, along with a black and silver handgun. James Yeoman, White Male age 43 of Parsons, and Valerie Charboneau, White Female age 26 of Parsons, were arrested for possessing the narcotics, and weapons.

A juvenile was also located in the home and custody given to a family member.

Law Enforcement secured the house and applied for a search warrant to continue the search, which was signed by a District Judge. The search warrant resulted in a seizure of over $4,500.00, a loaded revolver, Marijuana, Methamphetamines and Paraphernalia. Official weights of the seized narcotics will be done by the Kansas Bureau of Investigations Laboratory.

Charges are being filed on James and Valerie for Unlawful Cultivation or Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Endangering a Child, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Certain Drug Precursors, and Paraphernalia, Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Charboneau), and Criminal Use of Weapons (Yeoman).

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks says, "events like this are a result from great police work and partnerships between agencies." "Labette County Sheriff Darren Eichinger and I will continue to grow our efforts to combat this growing epidemic that plagues our community," Spinks continues. "This instance and others like it, are why we are currently developing the Kansas Combined Anti-Drug Taskforce (K-CAT)." Spinks says, "now that we have a name and a mission this task force will be the best step in advancing the war on drugs in our City, County, and State."

"Parsons as a community will not stand aside while drug dealers sell death to our children, families, and friends. We as your police department will continue as we have in the past presenting these and many more criminals to the courts for punishment and hopefully reformation," according to Spinks.

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It."
