P.R.O.P. Gains Another Offender Arrest
On April 20, 2023, Parsons Registered Offender Program (PROP) began an investigation into a non-compliant registered offender, Nichole L. Cardoza. Cardoza is a registered drug offender stemming from a 2022 conviction for Distribution of Controlled Substance: causing great bodily harm, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation's Registered Offender website.
On April 21, 2023, Lieutenant Kyle Wiford and Community Service Officer Ricky Thompson began following up on this case. During which time it was learned that Cardoza had moved from her registered address to another, approximately 2 months before. Cardoza had not notified the registrar at the Labette County Sheriff's Office of the change of address. Cardoza was located at the new residence in the 2500 block of Crawford Ave.
Cardoza was found to be in violation of three of her registration requirements, failing to register quarterly, failing to register a new address after moving from her previous registered address, and failure to annually renew her Kansas driver's/identification card. These violations and the continuance of one violation for over 90 days amounted to six counts of violation of offender registration act.
Cardoza was charged in Labette County District Court for violations of the Offender Registration Act and issued a $10,000 dollar bond. Cardoza was jailed at the Labette County Jail.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "this was a great job by Lt. Wiford and CSO Thompson. The PROP program was developed through Lt. Wiford's proactive stance to hold convicted offenders accountable for their actions. PROP is just one of the many programs that we have developed for our community, and we still see it paying off by removing non-compliant felons from the street."
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
