Police Respond to Disturbance

Date Posted: 09/12/2019

On September 11, 2019 at approximately 7:20 pm, Parsons Police Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Crawford for a report of a woman breaking out windows of a house.

When officers arrived on scene, they immediately heard the breaking of glass and ran to investigate. They witnessed 19-year-old, black female, Latavah Dunn standing next to the house with blood running down her face. She had apparently broken several windows while in a rage. Dunn was first asked what was going on. She ignored officers and then turned and walked away. Officers attempted to effect the arrest of Dunn for the criminal damage but were assaulted during the incident. Dunn began to hit and kick officers and in the fray one officer sustained an injury. Dunn was arrested and placed in a patrol car where she damaged police equipment as well. Dunn was treated for her injuries. The injured officer was treated and released from the emergency room and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Parsons Police Department arrested Dunn on three counts of Criminal Damage, Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Disorderly Conduct, and Interference with a Law Enforcement Officer.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks says, "we are lucky that this ended without serious injury to anyone. Police are often presented very limited options to resolve conflicts and must make split second decisions, these officers were confronted with a violent subject that refused to cooperate and was still able to make a solid arrest. We are thankful that the officer will make a full recovery and look forward to the officers return to duty status."

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
