Police Make Evening Arrest on Traffic Stop
On August 20, 2024, around 9:00 pm Parsons Police Officer Tyller White was working during the Kansas Department of Transportation's (KDOT) current special traffic enforcement program "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose," when he witnessed a vehicle speeding at 55 mph in a posted 30 mph zone. Officer White conducted a routine traffic stop in the 400 block of N 16th.
What Officer White found during his traffic stop was that the driver, Charles Dixon IV, was driving without a valid driver's license. Dixon was also found to be in violation of the offender registration act for an Aggravated Robbery conviction.
Officer White arrested Dixon and he was transported to the Parsons Police Lock-Up to be held until his first appearance. Charges Violation of Offender Registration, Driving Without Valid Driver's License and Speeding have been sent to the Labette County Attorney's Office for review and charging.
Parsons Police Patrol Lieutenant Kyle Wiford oversees the Parsons Registered Offender Program (PROP) and stated, "this is a great effort on Officer White part to look beyond the traffic stop. We participate in these state funded overtime programs to continue to educate offenders and create safer streets for our community. This is a great example of how a "routine" traffic stop can lead to bigger issues and how effective traffic enforcement is at finding criminal behavior that would otherwise not be found. I applaud Officer White for his diligence to the job."
This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
