Parsons Man Arrested for Kidnapping

On November 16, 2020 at approximately 5:14 pm Parsons Police Officers were dispatched to the Parsons Police Department to speak with a possible victim of Criminal Threat.

        When officers arrived to speak to the victim, they were informed of more than just a criminal threat case. There were also allegations of several other felony level crimes. The investigation lead officers to the 2200 block of Washington to speak with the suspect to confirm allegations. 

Parsons police officers arrived and were informed the suspect was in the house but had made comments about not being taken into custody alive. Corporal Garret Lucas, a Parsons Police Department negotiator, and officers were able to obtain the safe exit and arrest of Jeffery Lloyd Baker, 44 of Parsons. Baker was arrested on suspicion of Aggravated Child Endangerment, Kidnapping, Criminal Threat, Domestic Battery, Criminal Damage to Property, and Felony Failure to Register as an Offender. Baker is awaiting his first appearance in Labette County District Court.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "We have again come to another case that is primarily hidden behind closed doors. Again, these are the hardest cases to prevent due to victims are the primary reporters. Sometimes these cases can be reported and others they are not reported until it is too late. Fortunately, this was reported before it turned deadly. I want all victims of domestic violence to feel like they can step forward and be confident that the police are there to help."
