One Car Crash Leads to Fatality
On Tuesday October 12, 2021, at approximately 7:47 pm Parsons Police Department Officers responded to a car versus tree crash with the vehicle on fire at Kimball and Richard.
A local neighbor was able to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire prior to firefighter arrival. On scene officers reported that there were only two occupants in the vehicle. It was reported on scene by the driver that the accelerator had stuck causing the crash. The driver Harold Whetzel and his passenger Bette Whetzel were both transported to Labette Health by EMS. Harold was later transported by ambulance to Tulsa where he passed due to injuries. Bette was transport to Freeman by ambulance is still in critical condition at this time.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "this is an unfortunate event, and my heart goes out to the family, and anyone affected by the loss of Harold. Deputy Chief Dennis Dodd heard the crash and was able to report it and respond to the scene to help the arriving officers. That is a sign of a true professional in my opinion."
