Man Arrested for Kidnapping in Parsons

Date Posted: 02/05/2020

On February 1, 2020 at approximately 1:42 am Parsons Police Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Crawford for a report of an intoxicated man attempting to get into a house.

When officers arrived, they observed a white male on the porch of the caller. Officers identified the man as Mark Lee Hendricks, 39 of Parsons. Mark was intoxicated and identified by witnesses as the suspect. Officers detained Mark and dispatch received another 911 call from a neighbor stating that a man had broken into this house and was still there.

Officers investigated the second call and found that the victim identified Mark as the suspect in that call as well. The investigation revealed that Mark had kicked in the front door to the house and kidnapped the resident after threatening to "Shoot everything up." The victim was able to escape from Mark and hide outside to call the police. That was when Mark left and went to the next house.
Mark was arrested and taken to the Parsons Police Department. Charges for Aggravated Kidnapping, Criminal Threat, Aggravated Burglary, and Criminal Damage were sent to the Labette County Attorneys Office.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "Intoxication is not an excuse for criminal activity. Intoxication is a choice that is made and sometimes leads to even worse judgement. This incident seems to be isolated and not part of a larger problem."

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
