Man Arrested for 20 Criminal Charges at Police Department
On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, Parsons Police Officers were dispatched to the lobby of the Parsons Police Department to speak with an individual regarding a Protection from Abuse Order that had been served on him.
During the conversation, the individual began making concerning statements and exhibited behavior indicative of being under the influence of a substance. Officers asked if he was carrying any weapons, at which point he reached into a backpack. When asked again, he lifted his shirt, revealing a pistol. Concerned for his own and public safety, officers quickly detained him.
The individual was identified as Martinez Avery Tutt, 34, of Parsons. Tutt was taken into custody, where his statements became increasingly alarming. During an interview with a Parsons Police detective, Tutt admitted to daily drug use and was also questioned about a separate criminal case spanning February 4 through February 8.
As a result of the investigation, probable cause was established to arrest Tutt on the following charges related to the February 19 incident: Criminal Use of a Weapon (Possession of a Firearm by a Drug-Addicted User), Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
In addition, Tutt is facing multiple serious charges stemming from domestic-related incidents earlier in the month. These charges have been referred to the Labette County Attorney's Office for formal prosecution and include: Four counts of Aggravated Domestic Battery (Impeding Breath), Two counts of Aggravated Kidnapping, Three counts of Rape, Three counts of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Criminal Sodomy, Three counts of Domestic Battery, and Harassment by Telecommunications Device.
Detective Tony Adamson of the Parsons Police Department Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) emphasized the importance of early intervention in these cases, "These are exactly the types of cases that the Domestic Violence Unit is committed to preventing. When patterns of abuse escalate over time, they become increasingly difficult to stop without intervention. That's why we are here-to step in before things get worse."
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks added, "This case highlights the critical role that proactive policing and community awareness play in preventing violence. Our officers acted swiftly to de-escalate a potentially dangerous situation inside our own police department, preventing further harm. We remain steadfast in our commitment to holding offenders accountable and ensuring the safety of our community."
This continues to be an on-going investigation, and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
