Gunshots Lead to Arrest
On March 15, 2019 Parsons Police was called to a report of gunshots in the area of 22nd and Washington. When officers arrived in the area the parties involved had left the vicinity. Eyewitnesses reported a white male on a smaller blue moped pulling a handgun out and firing a shot while arguing with unknown individuals in a silver truck.
Officers conducted a search for the individual on the moped. Labette County Sheriff's Department assisted in the search and the Moped was found in the 2400 Block of Washington. A search warrant was granted, and a search of the residence was conducted for the gun and the suspect. The suspect, Zachary Swafford age 24, was not found at the residence but later turned himself into the Parsons Police Department. Police are still looking for the weapon that was used. Swafford is being charged with Criminal Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Assault in Labette County District Court.
"This is another successful arrest through the cooperation of Labette County Sheriff and Parsons Police Department," said Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks. "I have upmost faith that continued partnerships will only provide better livability for our communities," Spinks continued.
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It."
