Date Posted: 09/13/2021

On Saturday September 11th, 2021, Parsons Elks Club #527 offered to serve a steak meal to each First Responder in Labette County in thanks for their service. On the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 we paid homage to the men and women that died in that horrific attack and those that died trying to save them.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks presented the Elks lodge with 'The Distinguished Community Service Award' for their dedication to the areas First Responders and the support they have given them over the years. The Parsons Elks Lodge continues to serve as a beacon of fellowship and community service and everlasting strength to improve the quality of life for all Parsonians. They are also plank holders to the Parsons K-9 Program and will soon be partnering with the Parsons Police Department in a drug education program for the community.

The award was presented to Exalted Ruler Cecil Davidson. Trustee Joan Vitt was instrumental in coordinating the dinner and acting as a liaison with local First Responders. The dinner was attended by an estimated 100 persons. A huge thank you to Trustee's Joan Vitt and Gail Weldon who coordinating the event and other leads for the event included the cooking and kitchen crew headed by Lonni Wilson and lounge manager Kami Ryan. "On behalf of the local First Responders, we extend our sincerest gratitude," said Chief Spinks.
