Domestic Stabbing Leads to Arrest

Date Posted: 07/22/2022

On July 22, 2022, at around 4:26 am Parsons Police Officers were called to the 100 block of South 31st for a reported stabbing. The officers were told that the suspect had left the scene but told them that it was their son Ethan Edward Allen Evans, 21 of Parsons.

Officers gathered statements and a clothing description of Ethan while rendering first aid to the victim. Labette County EMS arrived and transported the victim to the emergency room at Labette Health. The family stated that Ethan suffers from a mental illness but had not been taking his medication.

Labette County Deputy Gabe Vitt was asked to assist in the search for Ethan. While looking for Ethan Deputy Vitt located him near 14th and Morton, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Ethan was transported to the Parsons Police Department for processing. The Parsons Police Department is requesting the following charges from the Labette County Attorney's Office; Domestic Battery and Attempted Second Degree Murder. Official charging will be completed by the county attorney's office.

Chief Robert Spinks said, "as I have mentioned before some of the biggest issues we face as a community is mental health issues and domestic violence. This case has both of those issues rolled into one incident. As a community we need to work to find non-criminal justice methods for rendering help to those in mental crisis or families who are plagued by domestic issues. This along with substance abuse contribute to a large portion of our criminal activity."

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
