Domestic Leads to Early Morning Chase

Date Posted: 06/04/2021

On June 4th at approximately 1:16 am, Parsons Police officers were dispatched to a reported domestic fight that took place in the 2300 block of Grand. Arriving officers quickly identified the suspect in a Ford F150.

Officers observed the suspect, who was identified as William Tyrone Andre Phillips, 19-year-old Black male from Parsons, leaving the area in a Ford F150. Officers observed that the vehicle did not have its headlights on and tried to make a traffic stop.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 2300 block of Belmont, William sped away from the officers, leading them on a chase.  William fled west on Belmont to 26th and then went south to Southern before turning west running into Labette County Jurisdiction. William fled to Lyon Rd. and turned south going to 21000 before turning west again. William took 21000 to Kiowa then turned north and went to 22000 before coming back east to Meade. He then turned back north on Meade going to 23000 again before turning west bound back to Lyon Rd. Officers lost William after turning north again in the dusty and dark roads.

Officers searched the area where the pursuit was called off and attempted to locate Williams at his home near Shale Hill Road. Officers were able to relocate William as he was parked behind that residence in the vehicle. William was ordered out of the vehicle by officers but refused and again fled in the vehicle. Labette County Deputies took over the pursuit the second time. William was able to evade them as well.

Charges are being sent to the County Attorney for Aggravated Domestic Battery along with Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Officers Reckless Driving, Failing to Yield to Emergency Vehicle and multiple smaller traffic infractions.

William was recently bonded out of Labette County Jail on charges for Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Endangering a Child, Criminal Threat, Theft, Domestic Battery, Aggravated Burglary and Sale and Distribution.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "We are going to make this arrest to put the community at ease. More often than not the Police Department gets the blame for criminals being let out of jail for their crimes. We put criminals in jail and the court set their bond amounts and release conditions. Only the court system can demand more from the criminals we put in their custody. We again look to the community for support to find Phillips and bring him to justice for putting lives at risk with his carless act."

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
