City Vehicle Stolen and Burnt

Date Posted: 08/31/2021

On August 30, 2021, Parsons police officers were called to the 3500 block of Southern for a reported vehicle fire. Shortly after arriving at the fire, it was determined that the vehicle in question was city owned.

Officers went to Oakwood Cemetery and found that there was an open gate between the cemetery and Marvel Park. Officers also discovered a garage door and a window had damage on it from being pried open. There was video camera in place at the building, but the cameras storage devices were stolen as well.

The vehicle was a 2003 Ford F150 and was a total loss due to the damage. The monetary loss of the vehicle is unknown at this time. Officers found that the gate between the cemetery did not have the lock cut or damaged, but it was left unlocked.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said "we are not sure who committed this act, but it will exhaust every effort to find out. This is the second time that someone has stolen a vehicle from the cemetery and evaded arrest. I once again call upon the eyes and ears of the community to give any assistance about this reckless and classless waste of taxpayer money. Help us bring them to justice."

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
