Child Found Wandering Leads to Drug Arrest
On November 11, 2021, around 2:20 pm, Parsons Police Officers responded to a report of a young child wandering around and crying outside without any adult supervision.
Responding officers located the 4-year-old boy in the 300 block of N 26th and were able to identify the child's parents to determine where he lived. Officers went to the child's house in the 300 block of N 23rd and located Michael Lee Tremaine, 47 of Parsons, who told officers that he was left in charge of the child. During the course of the investigation Tremaine told officers that he knew the child was missing but did not go and search or call anyone about the situation. Officer arrested Tremaine and located a baggie with suspected Methamphetamines and a glass smoking pipe on him.
Parsons Police are sending charges of Endangering a Child, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia to the Labette County Attorney's Office. Tremaine has an extensive criminal history and was recently in court for a drug related arrest. This investigation is ongoing with the cooperation of outside agencies for further assistance.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "I am excited to report that 'See It, Hear It, Report It' just possibly saved this child's life. As a result of poor supervision, a child was walking down one of the most traveled and busy side streets in Parsons. Children are curious by nature, and he could have wandered into the street and been easily struck by a vehicle. That would be a devastating blow to the entire community. I hope that the family learns a valuable lesson with this and finds a responsible party to watch their child in the future."
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
