Burglary Items Recovered During Investigation
On January 27, 2020 at approximately 10:38 pm Parsons Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of North 20th in Parsons for a reported disturbance. The initial report was a possible drug overdose.
When officers arrived, they were able to locate the alleged overdose victim and had them evaluated by EMS. Once EMS checked the patient out and advised they were ok, officers left the scene and were called back to the area for another disturbance approximately 12 minutes later. This time the report was a physical altercation with a possible gun involved.
During the course of the investigation, officers received information about stolen goods from a recent local burglary. Officers applied for and were granted a search warrant. The search discovered stolen goods, tools, illegal drugs, and firearms. This discovery has aided in the closure of multiple burglary cases in Parsons and Labette County. Items from an Altamont Burglary were also recovered.
Officers arrested Steven Michael Leon, 29 of Parsons, on suspicion of Aggravated Assault, Domestic Battery, Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jentri Nicole Wooden-Franklin, 24 of Parsons, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The list of charges for Leon in connection with the burglaries are still being compiled as this investigation is on-going. Parsons Police Department Investigators are still gathering victim information and identifying owners of stolen goods.
Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "This is another big win for the community of Parsons and the Parsons Police Department. Officers being able to identify stolen goods and get them back to their owners is always a win for everyone except the criminal. I want to take a moment to remind the citizens of Parsons and Labette County that when you have a criminal break into your home, vehicle, garage, or whatever you own please, file a police report. In that report be as descriptive as possible with what was stolen so that it can easily be identified as your belongings. Serial Numbers along with make and model are the best to use, but owner applied markings or identifying features will get the job done. Just give law enforcement as much information as possible about the belongings."
Charges are being filed in the Labette County District Court. Both Leon and Wooden-Franklin are being held until seen by a District Court Judge.
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It."
