Arson Case Investigated in Parsons

Date Posted: 09/28/2020

On September 26, 2020 at 11:11am, Parsons Police Dispatch received a call of a structure fire in the 1700 block of Morgan Ave. Parsons Police Officer Russel Parsons arrived with members of the Parsons Fire Department. Once the blaze was contained an investigation quickly revealed that the fire was potentially an Arson case.

Parsons Police Departments Investigations Division was contacted, along with the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office. A State Fire Marshal responded to the scene and worked with police investigators and fire personnel.  The residence was not an abandoned structure, but luckily the residents were not in the home when emergency responders arrived. Police canvassed the neighborhood speaking with neighbors and gathering evidence along with any potential security footage.

Currently, the fire is still under investigation and no further details into the investigation can be made.  If you have any information regarding this fire investigation, please contact the Parsons Police Department.

Parsons Police Chief Robert Spinks said, "I believe that we will find the culprit for this heinous crime and bring them before the judicial system for judgement. Crimes such as an arson can have lasting effects on a neighborhood and can damage more than just property. If any citizen has concerns about their home's safety, please just talk to an officer or fireman about what you can do to safeguard your home and family. Where we cannot prevent all crime, we can deter it with community partnerships."

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
