Early Friday morning, May 21, 2021 Parsons Police responded to the 2200 block of Morgan regarding a report that a known subject had pulled a knife on a female inside a residence. The female had escaped the house.

The female victim Aggravated Domestic Violence Assaulttold police that she had been dating the suspect, George Durant a 55-year-old Black Male, Parsons city resident. A verbal argument at the residence apparently escalated. Durant reportedly confronted the victim in the residence with a large knife trapping in a room of the house. Durant also was reported to have snatched the victim's purse from her during the incident. The Victim was assaulted but did not sustain any life-threatening injuries and did not require medical attention.

Durant was taken into custody by police without incident. He was arrested for Aggravated Assault (felony), Domestic Battery, Criminal Restraint and Robbery.

"At this point the investigation is centering on confirming stories," said Deputy Chief Dennis Dodd. "Like many of our aggravated assaults in Parsons, victims and suspects usually know each other and, in this case, there is the added eliminate of domestic violence which remains one of the community's major sources of violent crime."

Chief Robert Spinks said, "this is another example of how domestic violence plays a large part of the crime problem in Parsons. Yet, Domestic Violence prevention requires a community-wide effort to educate, prevent and intervene. While the police department is a partner in these efforts, we have to partner with other groups and individuals to bring a change to the culture of our community that domestic violence is wrong, that victims have a safety net to provide support to escape abusive relationships and that a swift arrest will follow those you attack spouses, loved ones or dating partners."

This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
