On January 31, 2023 at approximately 11:50 p.m., Parsons Police Officers were called to the area of 1500 South 25th St. for a report of a disturbance involving a firearm. Officers arrived and spoke with the reporting victim and other witnesses. It was learned that an altercation had taken place between the reporting victim and Tyreece Demott Kendrick, 23 years old of Parsons. Kendrick used a firearm, while threatening the victim and physical harm to the victim's child, who was not there at the time. The victim produced their own firearm and Kendrick fled from the scene.
The victim stated that after leaving the area, Kendrick was seen again standing off to the side of the road. The victim heard a gunshot as the victim drove past where Kendrick had been standing with no one else seen in the area.
Officers searched the immediate area and did not find Kendrick. A continued effort was put forth to find Kendrick and the search was expanded. Kendrick was located at a residence in the 1200 block of Ward Avenue where he was taken into custody. Kendrick also had an active arrest warrant. Officers used one of our K9 teams in a search of the crime scene.
Kendrick has been charged in Labette County District Court with Aggravated Assault and Criminal Threat, both are person felonies, in connection with this incident.
"I am glad that the victim in this case was not physically harmed, but these types of actions and threats cannot go unpunished. This behavior is what leads to further violence in our community. Our patrol officers did a great job in looking beyond the initial search and locating Kendrick. He was taken into custody in a swift and effective manner," said Lieutenant Kyle Wiford.
This continues to be an on-going investigation and citizens are encouraged to "See It, Hear It, Report It." If anyone has any further information on this incident or any other criminal activity, please contact the Parsons Police Department at 421-7060 or call the Tip Line at 421-7057 or email at tips@parsonspd.com.
