2022 Annual Report Released

Date Posted: 07/21/2023

The Parsons Police Department is proud to announce the release of its 2022 Annual Report, presenting a comprehensive overview of crime statistics and trends within our community. The report highlights a small drop in violent crime, attributing this success to the unwavering dedication of our law enforcement personnel and the invaluable support from the citizens of Parsons. However, the report also reveals a small increase in property crime rates, prompting the department to renew its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our residents.

Chief Robert Spinks expressed his gratitude to his exceptional team of officers and the community, stating, "I am immensely proud of the Parsons Police Department and the remarkable work of our officers. Their tireless efforts have undoubtedly contributed to the reduction in violent crime, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to each member of our department for their dedication and courage in serving our community."

While Parsons saw a decline in violent crimes such as homicides, aggravated assaults, and robberies in 2022, the city simultaneously experienced an uptick in property-related offenses, including burglaries, thefts, and vandalism. These figures serve as a reminder that our collective vigilance against crime remains crucial, and Chief Spinks emphasizes the importance of community involvement in reducing property crime opportunities.

Chief Spinks continued, "Though we celebrate the reduction in violent crime, we must address the rising property crime rates. The support and cooperation of our community play an integral role in maintaining a safe environment for all residents. Together, we can implement effective strategies to combat property crime and safeguard our homes and businesses."

Citizens are encouraged to make efforts at night to leave residential night lighting on, lock home doors and close and lock garages. A majority of vehicle theft involved unlocked cars with keys left in the ignition.

The Parsons Police Department remains committed to employing innovative policing methods and building strong partnerships with community members, local organizations, and businesses to address crime holistically. Initiatives such as NextDoor.com (the online neighborhood watch program), community policing efforts, and crime prevention engagements will be further emphasized to tackle property crime effectively in 2023.

The initiative of "See It, Hear It, Report It" continues to be a success with the community and is shown by our increase in calls for service. Arrests rose 17% in 2022 hitting 804. Even battling record low recruitment numbers and understaffing, the department still showed a successful year for 2022.

The 2022 Annual Report serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Parsons Police Department. Deputy Chief Dennis Dodd said he and his team are "resolute in their pursuit of a safer city and will continue to collaborate with the community to create a secure and thriving environment for everyone."

Patrol Lieutenant Kyle Wiford said, "the Parsons Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the residents of Parsons, working tirelessly to protect and serve the community. With a focus on community engagement and innovation, the department strives to maintain a strong partnership with its citizens, fostering an environment of trust and cooperation in the fight against crime by upholding the core values of Pride, Professionalism and Dedication."
